About Nathan Bowman

I currently manage environmental programs for the City of Norfolk by reviewing site development and construction plans, making planning design and construction recommendations, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. I interpret and monitor federal, state and local environmental policies and regulations. Also perform technical inspections of public and private projects to ensure compliance with erosion and sediment control and stormwater construction general permit regulations. As part of my job I investigate wetland and CBPA buffer violations, review site plans and private residential projects for conformity with the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act and Virginia Stormwater Management Program, identifying required elements on site plans, conduct and verifying wetland delineations, identify other water quality issues, write reports detailing how projects can comply with environmental regulations, coordinating environmental and land use issues with other departments, utilize the City Geographic Information System to analyze and review projects, and make presentations to the Board of Zoning Appeals, officials and civic groups. Another part of my responsibilities are preparing educational and informational materials, preparing technical reports, making policy recommendations, drafting ordinance language, serving on technical or public interest committees, preparing grant applications and administering grant funded projects.
