Contributed weekly blog posts to English-language website aimed at developing familiarity with and interest in various locations in South America. As the Colombia Insider, I was responsible for pitching topics about various facets of Colombian life and culture that would be interesting to the audience and potential travelers. I was also responsible for answering any Colombia-specific questions submitted by members through the website and communicating with the editorial team on a weekly basis.

Fulfilled short-term contract position with ACDI/VOCA's Afro-Colombian and Indigenous Program, a five-year, USAID-funded project focusing on economic development, human rights and land rights projects for Colombia's marginalized populations. Responsibilities included: gathering information from various sources including community members, community-based organizations, staff, and the project information database, for both internal and external reporting; Drafting, editing and translating text for weekly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc project reports, presentations and updates for submission to the donor and other program stakeholders; Translating documents and reports between English and Spanish; Developing and overseeing design of graphics, maps and other visual media for reports, presentations and handouts, and assisting other ACIP departments when possible; Contributing to the development of case studies, success stories and vignettes by attending ACIP weekly meetings and site visits to meet community stakeholders, local government officials and program staff to collect information on ACIP best practices, lessons learned, successes and challenges; Assisting with programmatic external communications including letters to government officials and stakeholders and outreach materials, ensuring quality and consistent communications; Providing branding and marking support to program staff; and coordinating with and supporting other ACDI/VOCA programs in Colombia as necessary.

Through Global Voices, I work within a network of hundreds of bloggers, editors and translators across the world in order to bring information and analysis that would otherwise be difficult to access to a wider audience.

Fulfilled a year of service at a non-profit organization that provides literacy and tennis programming to Boston-area students through after-school and summer programs. Responsibilities included: designing and implementing lesson plans, assisting students with homework, providing literacy support and leading vocabulary-building activities, planning and supervising tennis activities, building relationships with students and families, providing and creating online media content and contributing to the operation of a nonprofit organization. I also co-ran a summer site that served more than 200 local youth, supervised 10 junior staff members at that site, coordinated with program supervisors and communicated with parents and supervisors on a daily basis. During that summer, I helped design and implement training programs for high-school-aged junior staff members on topics ranging from financial literacy to university preparation. These seminars were extremely well-received and created a precedent for the organization's summer program that continues now.

Wrote more than 20 stories -- including five Page One feature articles, arts reviews, short news stories; worked under daily production schedule as a full-time staff reporter at a major-market newspaper. I worked with a number of different editors and writers and learned to balance the different styles and demands of various editors within a publication, as well as coordinating assignments with photographers. I upheld the strictest standards of reporting and journalism at all times and adapted easily to a new stylebook. In my time as the Features summer intern, I wrote and published more Page One features than any previous intern in that position.
