About Camilo Gómez
Hi there. A multipotentialite in progress here. Or in Emilie Wapnick’s TED talk words: a person with many many interests. As such, I am an expert at learning things and applying the knowledge I gather to make a living and to have as much fun as I can in the process.I am not saying this in vain. Let me tell you a bit more.Career-wise, after my bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, I earned a master's degree in Environment and Development. I have also completed +10 MOOCs on subjects that range from Design Thinking to Game Theory, and to Cartography. My last academic adventure started recently by joining the online specialization User Experience (UX) Research and Design by University of Michigan.I have had the chance to apply this knowledge working as an environmental consultant mostly for the public sector in Colombia. I even got to advise one of the most remarkable congresswomen in the country for over a year! But things change—thankfully for a multipotentialite—and nowadays I work in technical support for a US-based software company, which has led me to apply my engineering mindset to this tech/geeky side that had remained backstage so far.But not everything in life must be so formal, right? So, in my free time, I have been part of a semi-pro salsa dance academy, I have hosted and produced my own podcast reviewing psychology books, I learnt English on my own, I am a gym and sport nutrition enthusiastic, and nowadays I am enjoying myself learning French and how to play Ultimate Frisbee.Now, if I was to reflect on what all these experiences have left me with (as if I was writing a LinkedIn profile), I would have to say they have taught me invaluable lessons about myself. Let me get into bullet/presentation mode here. • I don't fear learning new things; the opposite, I crave for it and I have no issues at adapting to the new contexts my learning challenges may bring. • I have mastered my own learning process; I have become extraordinarily good at finding resources and applying techniques and tools to make that process thorough and worthwhile. • I have been getting better and better at finding patterns and connecting dots between fields and experiences that for a carefree observer may seem unrelated.Bottom line is that if something catches my eye, I’ll devote myself to learning about it, and I’ll apply all my intellectual arsenal until I master it and I make something worthwhile out of it.If you resonate with anything you've read here, let’s chat.
