As a Washington Sea Grant Hershman Fellow, I am working with the Makah Tribe Office of Marine Affairs on a variety of projects related to oil spill prevention and response, vessel traffic safety, climate resilience, and treaty resource protection.

I earned a PhD in aquatic and fishery sciences in collaboration with my adviser Dr. Lorenz Hauser. For my dissertation research, I assessed the population structure of two native shellfish species undergoing aquaculture development using RAD sequencing. I also conducted a genetic risk assessment of native shellfish aquaculture using computer simulations. Lastly, I interviewed shellfish resource managers and growers inform this work and to characterize the status quo regulatory context for an emerging management issue.

Lab assistant for an environmental DNA project seeking to tighten the loop between environmental monitoring and responsive environmental policy.

Conducted field and lab work for a project concerning plant biology and climate adaptation at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory.

Practiced sustainable agriculture techniques as a farm hand through the WWOOF New Zealand organization.

Identified, collected, and measured alpine flora of the Rocky Mountains for a macroecology project testing a hypothesis about the role of ecological disturbance in the distribution of metabolic rates.

Assisted lab members with research projects concerning plant pathology. Skills included field work, culturing, DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and DNA sequencing.
