As a Junior Mining Engineer my role within the company is to support the Project Manager & Project Team lead, with projects related to the Mining Sector for existing clients.• Some of the projects include:• Business Improvement (BI) Projects• Mine Ventilation ProjectsDuties include:• Performing real-time data gathering in underground mines• Conducting underground mines time and motion studies.• Collecting and analyzing samples underground.• Conducting a detailed vendor engagement on mining technologies • Engagement with mining management and engineers from various disciplines• Designing possible mine ventilation strategies based on the selected mine design layout • Determining Life of Mine air requirement utilizing excel• Building underground ventilation model, using Vuma Software• Building process flow diagrams (PFDs) using Microsoft Visio software• Site visit

Role Description• This role involved conducting a project to investigate the effectiveness of preconditioning holes in different stopping widths. This type of project contributes to operational efficiency and safety improvements in mining operations.• I provided support to the planning department, which was crucial for the efficient operation of the underground mine. • I was involved in supporting the underground mine surveying team with monthly measurements and mapping of underground workings. • I attended monthly production and underground planning meetings and discussions related to mine production targets, planning strategies, and operational challenges

The tasks performed in this role include completing courses that are directly relevant to mining engineering:• Shaft Sinking Method - This course covered the principles, methods, and safety considerations involved in sinking shafts, which is critical for accessing underground resources efficiently and safely. • Working in Height - This course, covered content, which focused on safety protocols, equipment usage, and best practices when working at elevated heights in mining environments as it is crucial for preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. • Mining services - This course covered, various auxiliary services and infrastructure required to support mining operations. • Trackless Mechanized Mining and TMM Supervision - The content covered in this course was mainly focused on the understanding of equipment used in trackless mines. I also got a chance to operate Drill rig and LHD through the simulations. • Basic Engineering & TARP - The Basic Engineering I learned about foundational knowledge in engineering principles relevant to mining, such as mechanics, materials science, and geotechnical engineering. Meanwhile, at TARP (Training in Aids of Rescue Procedures), I learned emergency response and rescue procedures specific to mining environments.
