As part of my role I carried out a significant requirements gathering exercise, authored the network high level design and liaised closely with the incumbent network provider authoring the detailed design. Working for Dell Services on the design & implementation of their first global standard for customer-facing data centres. The role included working closely with the internal physical DC design team on the data centre structure and working as part of the network design team on the high level network design. It culminated with the authoring of the low level network design that formed the global standard, and the implementation and commissioning of the network at the first of the global DCs.

As the Technical Lead I was responsible for ensuring the development & support of the firms IT infrastructure. I was also directly responsible for the ongoing development & support of the network. My primary responsibilities were,- Design authority and primary technical contact for the management and development of the LAN, WAN and Internet infrastructure including site to site and RAS VPNs, load balancing using F5 BigIP LTM appliances and ISP load balancing using F5 Link Controllers.- Direct line management of six Operations analysts, including mentoring, day to day supervision, annual appraisals, recruitment and disciplinary processes.- Primary technical contact for the ongoing management of the information security infrastructure using technologies such as Checkpoint VPN-1, RSA SecureID and Messagelabs Protect.- Preparation and management of the IT Operations budget (up to £3 million).- DR planning and management of the IT infrastructure, as well as working with the Emergency Management Team and advising on business continuity.- Overall responsibility for maintaining the firm’s operational environment and ensuring high levels of service availability utilising technologies such as VMWare vSphere, HP EVA disk arrays and Brocade SAN switches.

As a Network Engineer at Primus I was responsible for the implementation of customer solutions and the design & rollout of the corporate/billing network. My key responsibilities were,- Design and implementation of customer Internet solutions.- Management and maintenance of the European portion of Primus’s $300 million global ISP network using tools such as HP Openview and Ciscoworks management platforms.- Design, implementation, management and maintenance of Primus’s European corporate network (20 nodes).- Design and management of Primus’s $500K ISP dial platform on time and on budget.- Integration of acquired ISPs in Spain and Germany into the global network.- Assisted with the design and implementation of Primus’s $12 million London data centre.- Instigation and management of Primus’s European peering and transit agreements at LINX and DeCIX.
