My research interest includes development of crop varieties for value added traits and development of high yielding competitive crop varieties with tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress along with superior end-use quality using marker-assisted background selection (MABS) and marker-assisted forward breeding approach (MAFB). Developed three wheat varieties (Curiosity CL+, Mela CL+ and Resilience CL+) carrying two-gene Clearfield technology in soft white winter market class for Pacific Northwest (PNW) region of the US. I also have field breeding expertise involving evaluation of breeding material as head rows and yield plots at single as well as multiple locations.My Ph.D. project was focused on the development and use of various types of molecular markers for genetic mapping, gene tagging, QTL mapping for quality, yield and its component traits using whole genome genetic linkage maps in wheat. Currently, we are developing climate heat stress resilient wheat varieties for south east asian countries and using multiple approaches to understand the mechanism of heat tolerance in wheat.
