Upon arrival, the fill list prints, and I pull all of the medications needed in order to restock the pyxis. Additionally, patient-specific mediations will also be pulled. All technicians are IV trained. Therefore, I will make IV medications as needed these might include: vancomycin, meropenem, thiamine etc. These medications will be delivered all around the hospital and this process will repeat every couple of hours. Some of my other responsibilities include pre-packing the medications and delivering narcortics.

When a patient arrives at CVS with a new script I obtain all the necessary information and type the script into our system. Once it is verified by the pharmacist, I will fill and dispense the medication, the electronic scripts, and refills already in the system. Additionally, as an intern, I will answer both patient and doctor calls to address concerns, take verbal prescriptions, and process transfer requests both in and out of the pharmacy. Due to the current pandemic, I also administer COVID-19 tests and can immunize patients as well.

Selected pharmacy students from the University of the Sciences work with the medical students of Cooper Medical School to provide optimal care to uninsured individuals in Camden. This takes place under the supervision of a physician and a pharmacist. Once a patient arrives, I will go in and conduct a medication history with them to ensure everything is consistent with our records. Following this interaction, we discuss with an attending and return to the pharmacy to process any refills that were requested. As most of the patients that attend the clinic are Spanish-speaking, most of the prescriptions are typed in both English and Spanish. Finally, the medications are given to the patient along with any patient counseling that is required.

As an IPPE student at ACME, I processed any new prescriptions into their system and proceeded to fill and dispense the medications in the queue. Additionally, I shadowed the pharmacist during immunizations and transcribed prescriptions that were left as voicemails from the doctors.

Writing Center

Students would book an appointment and come to the writing center with different assignments and projects in which they needed assistance. As a writing consultant, our primary focus was to work effectively with the students to help them become better writers. This included suggesting areas of improvement, reorganization, and discussing alternative ideas.
