I studied a Parkinson's disease (PD) fly model to understand the effects on lifespan in genetically mutated fly. I also wrote my thesis based on my research question which was to see if glial cell expression in glucocerebrosidase would reduce lifespan in these PD fly models. I initially started by getting trained in sex sorting, understanding genetic mutations, setting up crosses to get the desired mutations. After this, I conducted my lifespan experiments to conclude that mutation of GBA in glial cells does affect lifespan in flies much similar to what we would have predicted in a human PD model.
