• Lecturer in mucosal immunology (MRC Career Development Fellow, QMUL) and enthusiastic science writer/editor (trading as Insight Editing London). The McCarthy lab studies host-pathogen interactions at mucosal surfaces, with a particular focus on γδ T-cells and their role in gut barrier protection against microbial infection and inflammation. The ultimate aim of this work is to understand how γδ T-cell function becomes dysregulated in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and could potentially be restored by novel agonist / antagonist immunotherapies. (Link to publications below).• Over 15 years experience in translational research focused on human mucosal immunology. Routinely collaborate with both scientists and clinicians on a variety of research projects, longitudinal patient studies, and clinical trials (The Royal London Hospital; St. Mark’s Hospital; Hammersmith Hospital; PAREXEL Clinical Pharmacology; AstraZeneca; Takeda; GlaxoSmithKline; Schering-Plough; Cambridge Antibody Technology).• In addition to directing and publishing my own research at QMUL, I also revise and edit scientific reports for leading research institutes across Europe, Asia and the US (trading as Insight Editing London).
