As an LET I am responsible to my Chief for the organisation of scheduled maintenance operation on equipment, updating of technical documentation, ordering and return of equipment stores and tools, and the training of section junior rates on the equipment.Currently preparing HMS Iron Duke as the command systems Leading hand for re-commissioning of various systems ready for return to active service.

External Communications LET. ICS3 (integrated communications system), UHF and HF radio systems, and additional internal comms distribution infrastructure, various GPS and comms based navigation and ships safety systems.

1. ADAWs section, Air Defence Automated Weapons System; a real-time, multi function combat computer for the type 42 air defence destroyer, plus multiple related peripheral systems.2. Phalanx Close-in Weapons System, a multi function, automated, hard-kill ‘Gatling Cannon’ used as a defensive measure against hostile aircraft, missiles, bombs and inshore attack craft composed of numerous mechanical, electronic and pneumatic systems.3. EW section, the electronic warfare sensors and counter measure systems on the ship including soft-kill munitions and launchers, and passive electronic sensor systems.

LET(WE) Career Qualifying Course and Leading Rates Command Course, carried out to qualify for promotion to Leading Hand and to be employed as a Leading Engineering Technician within the general service fleet.

1. RADAR section, assistant maintainer for various electro-mechanical and auxiliary systems related to the active RADAR sensors on ship. 2. 909 Trackers, dedicated tracking radar systems used in conjunction with the Seadart system. 3. Sea Dart, a medium range, surface to air missile system plus auxiliary systems including the hydraulic magazine handling system. 4. 4.5” Gun, large calibre automated gun system comprising of interlinked hydraulic and electromechanical systems. 5. External Comms ( ICS2A ). Aide in the maintenance of electromechanical HF and UHF communication and distribution systems.

Operations Room shift-operator. Providing command and navigational safety information from RADAR and other ship’s sensor systems..

Operations Room and Bridge Helsman shift keeper, general ships husbandry and minor maintenance.

OM(W) Specific trade training, including systems operations and equipment maintenance.
