As a Specimen Management Associate (SMA) I have been trained in multiple aspects of specimen receipt, processing and storage.As a SMA, I am responsible for:Routing any samples intended for the same day analysis to the lab in a timely manner.Executing quality control check and ID of incoming specimens.Remand samples with discrepancies into the DCQ.Performing end of day procedures and action any issues arising from this. Prepare and package specimens requiring onward shipping to outside recipients for testing.Ensuring that scheduled shipments are made as per sponsor requirements. Discarding any samples when required. Reviewing, actioning and closing any ad hoc requests assigned.Providing support to line management in any tasks applicable to the daily running of the department.Managing inventory maintenance.Sorting incoming specimens for testing storage or onward shipping.Ensuring that all shipments incoming and outgoing meet shipping regulatory requirements.Ensuring specimen integrity by maintaining specimens at proper temperature conditions and taking proactive steps to prevent temperature variance.Assisting with routine freezer maintenance.I have acted as a mentor for new starts and some of the lesser experienced members of my existing team. As a mentor, I have completed training with the afore mentioned staff, this included welcoming to the business, core training and helping them with any issues they have faced. This has allowed them to exceed within their roles, helping build a better business. I am trained in Liquid Nitrogen storage . I have deputised as senior person on shift in times of absence and annual leave, again highlighting my personal leadership and organisational skills.
