The diversity of experience gained as a manager in the chemical industry, within an academic institution and environmental sector led me to the conclusion early in my career that the future of effective business lies in the development of strong independent, mutually owned, social enterprises.With this belief I have been proud to have a career that has allowed me the opportunity to set up and run social enterprises for the last 20 years. This has culminated in my proudest occupational achievement to date, being part of a tremendous team that has created one of the finest, employee owned, social enterprises in the UK – Care Plus Group. Put simply - social enterprises are not-for-profit businesses that trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s life chances, or the environment. Making money from selling goods and services in the open market, but crucially, they reinvest their profits back into the business or the local community. When social enterprises profit, our society profits.As an advocate of lifelong learning in 2018 I achieved a Masters in Business Administrations (MBA) with Distinction. My values are those of enthusiasm, integrity and hard work and living a good life with balance between personal and career achievements.A passionate environmentalist I am a founding director and for the last 9 years have been the Chair of Green Futures, one of North East Lincolnshire’s most effective environmental organisations promoting horticulture as a route to health and wellbeing.I am a competitive CrossFit athlete and as a consequence, in my forties, have discovered Olympic lifting, gymnastics and high intensity-interval training.
