About Neil Garrett
I am an independent behavioural science researcher based at the University of East Anglia. I integrate a range of methods and theory from psychology, behavioural economics, neuroscience and computer science to understand human decision making. My research examines a broad range of exciting topics in behavioural science including how learning influences our financial decisions and how dishonest behaviour escalates over time (see here for instance: https://theconversation.com/why-being-dishonest-is-a-slippery-slope-67503). I hold a PhD in Experimental Psychology and an MSc in Cognitive and Decision Sciences from University College London (UCL). Prior to that he gained a BSc in Economics and Philosophy from the London School of Economics. I have lectured at UCL in the areas of biases in decision making and reference dependant choice and have contributed to radio documentaries (e.g., BBC Radio 4, Bringing up Britain), TV shows (Secrets of the Brain, Sky), given talks at public engagement events (e.g., Pint of Science), written for news editorials (e.g., NBC op-ed), online magazines (e.g., Wired, The Conversation, Aeon Magazine) and had my research featured extensively in the mainstream press (Guardian, New York Times, Associated Press, Huffington Post, BBC News, Time Magazine).
