In my role as head of ESG and Social Value I co-ordinate Mills & Reeve's strategy to embed ESG within our business. This involves work on developing that strategy and helping to identify, implement and measure metrics to assess and improve our ESG performance. I love spending time talking with our clients and contacts about how ESG affects them, exchanging ideas on best practice, and also looking at longer term trends in ESG and how that will impact both us and our clients. And I also get to spend time developing and promoting our community engagement programme (stuff we do to help the communities where we are based like skills volunteering, charity support and fund-raising, and outreach programmes into schools), which is hugely rewarding, and fun!Aside from that role, I'm a consultant in our corporate tax team specialising on the tax reliefs on investments into business and social enterprises. I have spent many years advising on VCT and EIS investments, and was closely involved in the development and introduction of social investment tax relief (which has now sadly been removed from the statute book). I also help businesses attract, and keep, talented people through the design and implementation of share incentives, including share option plans, use of growth and nil-paid share plans, employee trusts and mutual ownership structures.
