Grantmakers United for Trans Communities (GUTC) Leaders Fellowship is a professional development and mentorship opportunity for trans people in philanthropy. The fellowship offers the opportunity for the cohort to build connections with each other, to benefit from one-on-one coaching opportunities and to network with other trans folks and allies in philanthropy in order to strengthen leadership within philanthropy by trans people in order to best serve the trans community.

As the Caribbean Program Officer, I was responsible for coordinating and managing OutRight's projects and activities in the Caribbean. This involved conducting evidence-based and policy-oriented research whole also identifying funding opportunities, writing concept notes and proposals. Additionally, I liaised with NGOs across the Caribbean and worked closely with them to advance LGBTQI rights.

Jamaica

TransWave Jamaica is an organization that focuses on improving the health and well-being of Jamaicans of trans experience through advocacy, visibility and awareness. As the Co-founder and Executive Director, I oversee the organization’s advocacy initiatives and have prime responsibility for seeking funding opportunities in order to carry out the organization’s work. I also network with other organization’s in Jamaica and have attended conferences to represent TransWave Jamaica internationally.

Lead and conduct grant-making processes, including:Encourage trans communities to apply for funding.Review applications for funding.Make collective decisions on funding proposals Recommend grant-making priorities and provide input on ITF strategy as relevant.

As a TvT Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean, I am responsible for providing expertise and research coordination for the TvT project in the Caribbean. This involves assisting with the redevelopment of research material for the TvT project in addition to coordinating and consulting with local and regional trans communities and organizations.

The YLAI Fellowship brings together 250 entrepreneurs and civil society leaders from across Latin America and the Caribbean for cross-cultural exposure and experience in host cities across the USA in order to build partnerships and networks with their counterparts.

Jamaica

As the HIV Coordinator and Project Manager at Equality for All Foundation Jamaica, J-FLAG, the leading human rights advocacy organization in Jamaica, I interact with members of the LGBTQ community, civil society partners, and other key stakeholders, such as parliamentarians and Ministry of Health officials. I actively engage in a range of discussions and sensitization trainings, inclusive of stigma and discrimination, gender and sexuality, the client complaint mechanisms and other redress systems. I play a key role in the execution of forums that focus on human rights and diversity, such as the biannual Health For All Forum. Additionally, I manage and monitor the execution of activities under the various grants and report to funders regarding the implementation of activities.
