He is compassionate, understanding, realistic and knowledgeable, all tied into one. His 'roll up the sleeves and get in the dirt' mentality at all times, no matter the task at hand, is infectious. He's a lead-by-example, do-as-I-do not do-as-I-say (or tell you to do) type manager who makes it very hard to fail at the job. No matter what team Nelson is leading, at the store level, the district level, or the company wide level, his employees are happy to work for him. Nelson, like myself, is an operator; he knows KPIs like the back of his hand, and knows how important they are for any business to succeed on the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. And, without a doubt, each and every store, district, or territory Nelson was in charge of increased their KPIs across the board. However, what differentiates Nelson from other operators I've worked with in the past is that he also knows how important the non-KPIs of the business are; greeting customers, engaging with guests, demonstrating products, and being sincere. He teaches his team, through lessons and trainings but also through leading by example, all of the above.
