The position reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible and accountable to the Board for the overall strategic and operational management of all legal and community related programs. Key duties of the role include:To provide effective management of the services, operations and resources of the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. To appropriately respond to the legal and related needs of the Victorian Koori Community. To comply with the requirements of funding and appropriate legislation and overall organisational policy framework.Provide professional advice and make recommendations to the Board of Directors, in relation to policy development, law reform, community legal education and implementation of legal and legal aid related services, to the Victorian Aboriginal Community. Oversee the development and implementation of Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service policy and programs including development and implementation of policy, programs and processes to enhance the effectiveness of the service.Develop and manage government and non government agency relationships to ensure integrated and coordinated responses to the problems faced by the Aboriginal Community.Undertake research and assessment of projects and programs with an aim to improving the range, quality, performance, distribution and cost-effectiveness of services provided by the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. Develop, manage and maintain effective communication strategies, internally and externally to ensure information dissemination and communication lines are open for feedback and evaluation.Represent the VALS at meetings and forums at Local, State, National and International levels, ensuring effective representation for Victorian Aboriginal Communities on issues concerning legal services, community legal education, law reform, policy development and associated matters as the Board directs.Undertake other duties which are incidental and peripheral to the main tasks

The Women's Correctional Services Advisory Committee (WCSAC) was established by the then Minister for Corrections in 2003 to provide an external source of expert advice on the delivery of correctional services to women prisoners and offenders.The Women's Correctional Services Advisory Committee is chaired by a nominee of the Minister for Corrections and reports to the Minister for Corrections. Ms Juliana Addison MP is the current chair of the WCSAC Committee. The committee comprises key stakeholders with diverse backgrounds who have considerable working knowledge and experience of the complexities and challenges faced by women offenders.The committee's terms of reference are to:provide advice to the Minister for Corrections on strategic directions and service requirements for women in the Victorian correctional services systemhave input into the development of policy, including research and evaluation that leads to the development of best practice in the delivery of services and programs for women offenders and prisonersprovide a forum for discussion of ongoing issues that arise in relation to women in the correctional services systemconsider matters referred by the Minister for Corrections.

From 24 September 2018 to 5 August 2020 I held as position on the Board of Bubup Wilam, meaning “Children’s Place” in Woi Wurrung language, which is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Education, Health and Wellbeing organisation. Bubup Wilam’s philosophy is to reinforce this through strengthening our children’s strong sense of Aboriginal identity and personal self-esteem, as their foundation for lifelong learning, health, and wellbeing. Bubup Wilam provides Aboriginal children, families, and the community with access to an integrated range of health and wellbeing services and programs centring around the child through attending our long day and kindergarten programs. This is then extended to their school aged siblings and the family.

The Director Executive and Corporate Services is a member of the Executive Management Team and as part of the Executive Team works to achieve the VALS’ goals and objectives. The position is responsible for ensuring mechanisms are in place to support high standards of internal and external governance. The position requires efficient management, leadership and development of staff and resources within the section as well as contribution to broader organisational leadership, participation in formulation of strategic directions and plans, setting priorities and advising on resourcing. The Director Executive and Corporate Services provides secretariat support to the VALS’ Board, ensuring it can effectively perform its governance and fiduciary duties.During my appointment as Director of Executive & Corporate Services I have also fulfilled the role of Director, Legal and Client Services for extended periods of time. This role manages the delivery of quality legal and client services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community and stakeholders. This position oversees the provision of client services, legal advice and legal aid, incorporates case management and planning with Solicitors, Client Services and Administrative Staff in Victoria. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring that legal practice standards are met, including pro-actively delivery of in house training.
