In my first office-based London role I was able to really hone my administrative skills and develop a foundational understanding of corporate culture. While administration was at the heart of my year at Bain and Gray, it was really the projects I took on that made my role so special. I sat on multiple committees, became crucial in the marketing strategy and implementation (building and sending newsletters), collected the data for the bi-annual salary survey, coordinated events, ran reports for the senior leadership team, and various other ad-hoc projects.

This role began as good old fashioned work experience... An attempt to develop my understanding of a largely unfamiliar industry, but with a company that I had an existing relationship with. I learned quickly and thoroughly (marketing waits for no-one), and soon got to grips with an array of different platforms and technologies all designed to make reaching thousands of people easier. Since January, my role has evolved into a fully fledged Marketing Assistant position. Drawing on the skills I learned under the fabulous tutelage of Ms Ruth Nye, I have been working to expand the social media engagement of The Fox. Such responsibilities include producing newsletters designed for a substantial mailing list, creating and scheduling content, collaborating with other departments to promote events, and updating the websites across the sites to ensure information remains current.

Starting when I was newly 17, I have been an integral part of this team in its expansions and its development. At the heart of a village, community is a fundamental part of the ethos of the Fox at Willian. Further to the day-to-day restaurant schedule, I have been involved in outstanding events such as a Moulin Rouge New Years Eve night, and countless Christmas Day lunch services.

I was part of a team opening an exciting new wine bar in the heart of York. I worked to develop Howl’s brand in a way that could compete with the many other independent businesses in York. Specifically, this meant designing and posting content on the instagram page. From this I learned how to engage an audience by utilising all the mediums the app had to offer, including stories, reels and posts.

As a features editor, I was responsible for developing content ideas alongside writing my own articles. My ideas were used a great number of times to inspire thought-provoking pieces of work. The articles I penned and uploaded received notable acclaim of their own. My work on Zara and forced labour engaged a collection of human rights organisations. One of the more introspective articles garnered me an opportunity to work with the media department of the Houses of Parliament.
