Geotechnical Engineer
CurrentAs a technical officer, I was responsible for maintaining the functioning of the lab and providing training and supports to research students in conducting geotechnical experiments including soil moisture content test, soil classification tests, soil chemical tests, soil compaction and density tests, soil strength and consolidation tests.Key responsibilities• Provide instruction to research students on the use of laboratory facilities and how to store, collect, dispose of, and recycle materials complying with the required procedures.• Provide training to students in preparing samples, using research equipment, and conducting experiments• Set up experiments for research projects• Liaise with the Workshop on fixing and manufacturing lab items• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers on materials and equipment required for research activities Key skills gained• Get familiar to Australia Standard for geotechnical experiments including AS 1289.0:2014, AS 1289.1.1-2001, AS 1289.2.1.1-2005 (R2016), AS 1289.3.1.1-2009 (R2017), AS 1289.3.9.1:2015, AS 1289.3.2.1-2009, AS 1289.3.3.1-2009, AS 1289.3.3.2-2009, AS 1289.3.4.1-2008 (R2016), AS 1289.3.5.1-2006, AS 1289.3.5.2-2002 (R2013), AS 1289.3.6.1-2009, AS 1289.3.6.3-2003, AS 1289.4.1.1-1997, AS 1289.4.3.1-1997, AS 1289.5.1.1:2017, AS 1289.6.1.1:2014, AS 1289.6.1.2-1998 (R2013), AS 1289.6.2.1-2001 (R2013), AS 1289.6.2.2-1998, AS 1289.6.4.2:2016, AS 1289.6.6.1-1998, AS 1289.6.7.3:2016, AS 1289.7.1.1-2003• Run the lab in compliance with safety regulations• Set up, operate, and analyse geotechnical experiments • Prepare, maintain, and update paperwork• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers• Improve training, organizational, communication, and prioritizing skills
