Participated in building wireless and WiFi networks in Ghana. Co-wrote calls for tender to purchase 220 WiFi Cisco Meraki APs as well as routers, switches and management tools. Co-designed, implemented and documented the underlying OSPF IP network. Managed the BGP sessions to the upstream provider and managed the Meraki Dashboard. Set up the network operations center in Accra and interviewed, hired and mentored engineers and technicians. Controlled and monitored the deployment of WiFi networks.Remotely from Canada, collaborated with engineers and technicians in Ghana and Nigeria, and monitored upstream bandwidths and compliance to the SLAs. Obtained 16,000 public IPv4 addresses from AfriNIC.

Set up monitoring in Nagios for 130 Cisco, 3Com and HP Procurve switches and routers sitting on 800 km of fiber optics covering 59 rural municipalities. Configured and managed OSPF routing and BGP sessions to the upstream providers, and monitored bandwidths and compliance to the SLAs. Installed ServPoET PPPoE servers. Diagnosed and resolved routing, spanning tree and VLANing issues. Obtained 4000 IPv4 addresses from ARIN.

Supervised the construction of a 500 km IP fiber optics network connecting 99 buildings for two school boards, two regional municipalities and a private partner. Wrote the technical specification and the call for tenders for the overarching IP networks’ switches, routers and firewalls, and supervised their installation and configuration. The final cost of this project was limited to 4.1 million CAD$, instead of the 5.1 million CAD$ initially projected.Participated in the deployment strategy with the partners and ensured strict compliance with the government programs. Participated in promotional and strategic meetings in close collaboration with the mayors and directors involved. Coordinated and controlled the chief engineer and sub-contractors during deployment and construction. Strictly monitored the various stages of the project, budgets, schedules and conformity.Managed and coordinated the school board’s team of four IT technicians and its IT resources – including 1550 PCs – spread over 28 schools and buildings. Interviewed and hired technicians. Wrote calls for tenders and service contracts, made IT purchases.

In Java 1.3, SQL and Oracle 8, worked on the corporate application analyzing and optimizing Alcatel’s clients’ telco equipment networks. Sped up by 20% client topology integration in the RDBMS done via JDBC and SQL, and developed the statistics retention module also in JDBC and SQL. Developed and verified the Windows installers and built and administered the verification and test laboratory.

Administered the load-build process and implemented load-build procedures in Perl for Nortel’s Unix-based NAV telephony platforms. Developed the Windows installers for the OpenSpeech voice recognizer and two applications. Designed and implemented a Microsoft COM wrapper for the recognizer in C++98.
