Nicholas Larsen Email and Phone Number
I am a senior data scientist in the Intelligence & Homeland Security branch at GDIT. My current focus is AI/ML applications for insider threat, with project highlights including NLP, LLMs, knowledge graph analytics, and risk scoring. These projects span end-to-end development, from research, to deployment, to maintenance. As a Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University, I researched new statistical methodologies for implementing online controlled experiments (OCEs, colloquially referred to as A/B Tests), which lead to collaborations with domain experts both in academia and industry. My dissertation focused on Experimental Design, including applications in network A/B testing, baseline parameterization, multi-treatment designs, and sequential designs. I taught introductory statistics and machine learning to undergraduates and masters students with backgrounds ranging from STEM to Liberal Arts and mentored undergraduates in a summer research program that encourages college-level students to pursue graduate education in STEM. I also worked as a software engineering intern at a research company specializing in DoD and IC related contracts, where I researched and applied machine learning methodology for anomaly detection in radar data obtained by various U.S. defense entities.I am passionate about cross-cultural diversity inside and outside the workplace. In my opinion, learning other languages is one of the richest, most profound ways to connect with humanity. To that end, I enjoy pursuing Mandarin and Spanish in my spare time.
