About Nicholas Chambers

My first encounter with chemistry was in 8th grade when I was first taught about atoms, basic chemistry, and the periodic table. These concepts were fascinating to me and led me to pursue advanced placement chemistry classes and an independent study course in organic chemistry in high school. My enjoyment of these classes then led me to pursue my undergraduate degree in biochemistry. I have always had a passion for learning, especially on my feet in a laboratory environment. As a result, I received three different awards during my education at UNCG which include the 2015-2016 CRC Award for Achievement in General Chemistry, the 2016-2017 POLYED Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Achievement Award, and the 2018-2019 American Chemical Society Division of Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Award. Due to my excellent performance in my studies I was listed on the Chancellor's list for all semesters between the Fall 2015 and Spring 2018 semesters, and the Dean's list from Fall 2015 to Spring 2019 with a final transcript listing a 4.00 overall GPA. I hold a belief that chemistry is one of the best areas of study for the advancement of technology and improvement of the human condition. Following through with this belief led me to undergraduate research under Kimberly Petersen in Asymmetric Organic Synthesis. Working in her research group taught me how to effectively report to and work within a research team, honed my skills in many laboratory techniques, and enhanced my skills in communicating science to colleagues and the public alike. Through employment I hope to broaden my understanding of the science of chemistry and acquire skills to succeed in the industry while advancing the goals of your institution by making them a part of my own.
