I served 11 years in the Grenadier Guards until I was medically discharged in 2011 due to injuries sustained in Afghanistan.Since leaving the Army I have been working as a Candidate Manager for the charity Soldier On!. The charity provides career transition support to medically downgraded service personnel and veterans.My role was to provide individually focussed support to the WIS personnel while they were undergoing their career management pathway. Specifically, my duties were to co-ordinate workshops and to ensure that the candidates progressed through their pathways, according to an agreed time frame. In addition, I liaised with civilian businesses, the defence recovery capability including CTP/RCS, other service charities and senior MOD staff. Soldier On! has a very small team and operates with no back office support staff, therefore success could only be achieved through maintaining an extremely professional database and ensuring that agreed priorities were strictly adhered to. Finally, it was my responsibility to publicise the employment opportunities we received to our candidates as well as the wider transition community.
