I study how the brain constructs our reality. In particular, I’ve focused on how the brain encodes information about short-term memories, spatial position, and visual space. Highlights of my research include the discovery of a hierarchy of timescales for mnemonic representations in the non-human primate cortex and the neural representations of past and distant future positions in the hippocampus of flying bats. Achieving these insights has required continuous advancement of neural recording technology and analysis tools, extensive collaboration, constant learning, and training of other scientists.
