My role responsibilities covered all aspects of the two hatcheries and four nurseries to produce the target number of 3.5 million abalone each year. I reported directly to the CEO and was the 2IC on site in the General Manager's absence. Depending on the season and workload, my direct reports varied from two to four staff.During my time as manager, my ability grew along with the farm as my team, and I made significant progress in the farm's understanding and production.- My team and I increased the farm's average settlement from 15% in 2020-2021 to 37.8% in 2021-2022. The final nursery we set had an average settlement of 48% in the 2021-2022 season. Our team was excited and proud of the improvements gained through the learnings made in one season.- Successfully performed multiple spawns, sets and rearings of Roe's abalone with an average settlement of 21%. These Roei were for supply requests from the Fisheries (DPIRD) for restocking programs. These spawnings were the first successfully performed commercial production of Roei Abalone.- Troubleshooted and corrected a farm hatchery that had never successfully reared larvae. - Increased hatchery Larval rearing tank capacities through improved hatchery techniques.- Improve algae growth through techniques and recipes to increase feed availability in nursery tanks.- Implemented better cleaning techniques to reduce the chemicals required to clean and reset nursery tanks each season, saving significant seasonal costs.- Improved abalone anaesthesia techniques to save on seasonal anesthetic costs.

In this role, I worked in the farm's Hatchery and Nursery section with juveniles abalone and in the grow-out area with adult abalone. This role saw me take on many different tasks and help in whatever section of the farm was busiest during the seasonal shifts in workload. I built my foundation of aquaculture experience in this role. I found it valuable to be involved in all parts of the farm during my time as a supervisor. I had the opportunity to partake in various roles, from spawning broodstock and rearing larvae, cleaning and moving harvest-size stock, pigging farm supply lines, diving on the farm's ocean intakes and performing maintenance on infrastructure.
