Back in 2002, I walked into the Guitar Center in Towson, MD fresh out of college and got hired as a guitar and guitar amplification salesperson. I stayed at that location for approximately seven years, eventually rising to the rank of Sales Manager/Store Manager In-training before finding a career opportunity in commercial banking. During that time, however, I became enthralled with the music business and was able hone my skills not just as a salesperson, but also as a multi-tasking sales manager and trainer. This experience, coupled with six years as a commercial credit officer for a large Maryland-based bank, gave me an intimate knowledge of how different types of businesses operate and a strong knowledge base for business management and financial analyses. In 2015, I transitioned into the field of substance abuse and mental health treatment and worked for private treatment centers doing community outreach, business development, advocacy, and education for all different types of entities which regularly encounter referrals for the type of treatment my employers provided. This role enabled me to garner some experience working with local governments, hospitals and their staffs, the legal system and courts, other treatment centers, and more. In 2020, I eventually became accredited as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist by the UMD Dept. of Psychiatry and State Of MD Board of Mental Health Practitioners and was able to work for the Baltimore County Bureau of Behavioral Health in this capacity. Early in 2022, I was presented with an amazing opportunity by an old friend with whom I worked side by side in the sales trenches of that extremely busy Guitar Center location.
