Profile bio

About Nicholas Morgan

I work as an application engineer for cathodoluminescence (CL) electron microscopy of industrial semiconductor systems, including for power electronics. Using CL spectroscopy, I develop methods to characterize material properties, including defects, doping, and elemental composition, for in-line process monitoring. With a background in chemical engineering and materials science, my PhD at EPFL focused on the use of advanced microfrabrication and materials characterization techniques to study nanoscale semiconductors for optoelectronic applications. Using MBE and MOVPE, I investigated the growth mechanisms of GaAs and InAs nanowires, with an emphasis on tuning their properties for photodetector applications. Together with my colleagues and collaborators, my research highlights the nanoscale processes governing epitaxial growth and how we can control these processes to manipulate the electronic and photonic properties of III-V nanostructures, with an emphasis on infrared and terahertz detection.
