We evaluated the performance of the electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and communications systems on the first generation machine, then dismantled original system. We designed end-of-arm tooling and a cable management solution for the robotic subsystem; as well as determining optimal robot placement and path generation for the second generation machine. I worked with vendors to procure custom parts and assembled major components of the system. At the end of the internship I produced a final report containing detailed documentation of the entire process. This internship provided me with valuable experience designing for manufacturability, working in a large business environment, and collaborating with people from different disciplines and industries. It was rewarding to see the machine that I helped design develop from an idea into a full workcell. Show less

I worked in a small student team to analyze the feasibility of present data in borough government databases for urban heatwave contingency planning. Our preliminary research focused on the causes and indicators of heat vulnerability within urban communities and identifying the most relevant indicators for contingency planning. Our preliminary research focused on the causes and indicators of heat vulnerability within urban communities and identifying the most relevant indicators for contingency planning. We worked with members of the London Borough of Hounslow government to assess the data that was held by the borough and compile the type, specificity, and accessibility of the data. We organized our findings into a final report that was submitted to the Borough. This project was my first exposure to working with government agencies and working in a foreign country. It was a great experience, and I learned a lot about data analysis, working with sensitive data, creating good documentation, and working with large institutions and governments. Show less
