At Diatomix I spearheaded research and development, branding, strategic initiatives, fundraising, and go-to-market efforts. In my capacity as Chief Technology Officer at Diatomix, I played a pivotal role in steering our research endeavors towards catalyst support structures, with a focus on commercializing passive removal materials for smart coatings. Leading the Research and Development department, my responsibilities extend to driving business expansion initiatives and securing funding.I was actively involved in scaling up our materials for production capacities that can meet the demands of several national and multinational companies. Some of my key achievements at Diatomix include:1) Securing over a million dollars in non-dilutive funding.2) Spearheading a comprehensive overhaul of the synthesis process for our materials, enhancing robustness for scale-up and environmental sustainability.3) Successfully securing and completing both Phase I and Phase II SBIR awards from the NSF.4) Playing a crucial role in strategic hiring decisions for the R&D team.5) Contributing to the improvement of catalytic activity in our materials.6) Representing Diatomix at various conferences and international expos, showcasing our innovative materials to a global audience.My role involved not only advancing technological development but also ensuring the successful integration of these advancements into scalable and market-ready solutions.

As their research chemist, I helped to developed a new catalyst for ultra-pure water applications, increase performance of water purification systems using oxidants as additives, and initiated switching the wavelength of light used in reactors. While studying the effects of weak oxidants we discovered increased degradation rates which warranted the submission of a provisional patent. This position has helped me to understand how evaluate intellectual property and to use design of experiments software to statistically analyze multiple variables simultaneously.

Over my 5-year graduate career, I achieved notable milestones, contributing to 4 first-author and 3 co-author publications. My dedication to academic and research excellence was recognized through prestigious awards, including the EAPSI grant from the NSF for a research stint at the University of Osaka, the Paul Emmet Award from the Chemistry Department, and the Presidents Award for Community Engagement from Portland State University.My research has been centered on the in-depth characterization of a groundbreaking class of conductive polymers. This work has encompassed diverse applications, ranging from carbon dioxide adsorption and enhancing organic-semiconductor performance to the synthesis of hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, I undertook a side project involving the analysis of extensive datasets related to solar panel arrays and monitoring equipment. I am passionate about pushing the boundaries of knowledge and contributing meaningfully to the scientific community.
