King County's market-based transfer of development rights program is the most successful program of its kind in the country, having conserved over 147,000 acres of farms, forests, and rural lands. In addition to managing this program, I build partnerships with cities to encourage growth within our existing urban footprint, help shape a regional dialog on the future of market-based conservation across the central Puget Sound, and bring innovative thinking to support King County's Land Conservation Initiative.

Global Exploration and Recovery is an international team of scientists and wilderness expedition professionals dedicated to the research, recovery, and repatriation of U.S. Service members and civilians missing around the world.Our current project is the continuation of the Duck Hunt, a search for 3 U.S. Servicemen who lost their lives in a plane crash in eastern Greenland in 1942.

I lead and collaborate on local and statewide projects to advance a regional sustainability mission, including:- composing, designing, editing, and reviewing technical reports, proposals, and presentations;- giving effective presentations on sustainability issues to a diverse array of audiences;- leading interdisciplinary teams on programmatic contracts, environmental policy design, and business development efforts;- successfully raising over $3 million in funding for conservation projects to date; and- briefing senior management, elected officials, industry groups, tribes, and public agencies on sustainability issues.

I managed and trained staff of 14 employees, developed and and implemented policies that improved productivity and customer service while growing a $1M+ business. I also worked on product design, including the award-winning Spoonbill sleeping bag. I developed marketing materials, expanded the company's access to new domestic and foreign markets, and established innovative and profitable partnerships with international companies.

Led mountaineering expeditions and taught skills courses in the Cascade range of Washington, including Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, and the North Cascades.

Led quantitative analysis and policy research components of multi-year study on the role of trees in the roadside environment, funded by the U.S. Forest Service. This project resulted in a number of publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed academic journals and presentations at national conferences.

API offered high-end whitewater rafting trips in Washington and personalized instruction in whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, and wilderness ethics. I also was the government affairs liaison, managing all permitting and creating marketing materials.

Colalborated with fisheries biologists at the National Marine Fisheries Service assessing salmon viability in the Skykomish River through statistical modeling.

Wrote and reviewed trademark applications, managed correspondence with clients and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Kwazulu Natal, South Africa

Led whitewater rafting trips on the Class V rapids of the Tugela River and canyoneering trips in the Umfongosi Gorge based out of the Tugela Bush Camp in remote KwaZulu Natal. Published a book about these experiences, Guided Currents: Notes from the Banks of the Tugela (see link).
