About Nicholas Gray
Hello everyone! My name is Nicholas, and I am a master's student majoring in computer science at the University of Central Florida. My main passions are machine learning and computer vision, with a passion in on-device machine learning and autonomous navigation.I have held multiple research positions, including both university and industry research on machine learning algorithms in real-time and low-power hardware. While at UCF, I was part of the Real-time and Intelligent Systems laboratory with Dr. Zhishan Guo, publishing a paper demonstrating a 22.9% improvement in traffic sign detection for autonomous vehicles in harsh sun glare conditions. I have also taken various leadership roles to educate people on AI research, including instructing 8 high school students on the autonomous vehicle research process and being a member of the executive committee for UCF’s student-run artificial intelligence research and development club (AI@UCF), with my focus being on increasing meeting turnout and member retention. I have also volunteered in outreach events letting low-income students experience VR and AR technologies for the first time.Beyond my academic and professional pursuits, I also believe in continuous learning and expressing my creativity. I am passionate about film-making and like to make short, low-budget videos in my free time. I also like to do origami, which I find both a challenge in precision and focus and an expression of how I perceive the world. My machine learning and computer vision experience includes:- Stereo Vision- Inertial Navigation- Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)- Object Detection- Image Denoising- Statistical Forecasting- Biomedical classificationTechnical skills:Experienced (>3 years experience): Python (Scikit-learn, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, OpenCV, Matplotlib, Flask), Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch, Linux, Git, Google Cloud Platform, LaTeXKnowledgeable (1-3 years experience): Java, Kotlin, C, C++, SQL, Heroku, Jira, BitBucketFamiliar (~1 year experience): JavaScript, Dart, Flutter, MongoDB, Robot Operating SystemI'm currently looking for entry-level full-time roles in machine learning or computer vision.
