    EcoQuest is a semester aboard program that focuses on educating students on the ecology, policy, and cultures of New Zealand. During my time at EcoQuest, I was fortunate enough to complete my senior capstone. I had the opportunity to track the only endemic terrestrial mammals in New Zealand – the long-tailed and short-tailed bats. During the span of my research, my group and I preformed a variety of tasks centered around data collection. We ran transect lines, placed Acoustic Bat Monitors, set up harp-traps, captured and tagged bats, and used telemetry equipment to track the individuals back to their roost sites. Our effort and dedication paid off, we had the privilege of being the first group in New Zealand’s history to capture a long-tail bat in the Hunua Ranges. In addition to this, I learned how to properly analyze and interpret data so that it may be reused for scholarly publications.
