I’m an attorney who represents financial services and technology companies. My representation of financial services companies focuses on lawsuits in West Virginia and other states and investigations by the West Virginia Attorney General’s office. I also counsel those companies on compliance issues and the creation of policies and procedures. My representation of technology companies focuses on counseling them in business and compliance issues as well as addressing litigation issues when they arise.I’m currently a member in Spilman Thomas & Battle’s Consumer Finance Litigation Practice Group and co-edit its newsletter All Consuming. I also chair the firm’s Technology Law Practice Group and co-edit its newsletter Decoded.I’ve spoken at national conferences on various issues related to financial litigation.I’m honored to have been included in both Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers for several years. I was designated the 2020 Lawyer of the Year for Banking and Finance Litigation in Charleston, WV and the 2021 Lawyer of the Year for Banking and Finance Regulation in Charleston, WVMy work with creditors and collectors led to my appointment as the West Virginia State Chair for both ACA International and the Mid-Atlantic Collectors Association. I'm also active in the National Creditors Bar Association, serving on its Defense Bar and Amicus Brief Committees. World Services Group recently honored me with the appointment to be the first North America Group Leader for its Banking & Finance Group. I'm looking forward to growing this group to serve as a resource for collaboration and networking among banking and finance lawyers throughout North America.I’m obsessed with the intersection of technology and finance and have spoken on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to various groups throughout West Virginia.
