What do Visual Effects and Data Analytics have in common? They are both skills that I have developed in my previous roles! Learning the logical flows needed for good visual effects was my first big stepping stone into the world of data analytics. As I transitioned into administrative and database management roles I found my background inspiring me to find creative solutions for the many data related problems that came my way. I found solving these problems were the best parts of my day. I have had very diverse roles throughout my career, moving between administration, creating special effects for feature films, maintaining inventory databases, and assisting with all attendee needs for large scale corporate events. I love data, I love finding new ways to use data to learn new things, and gain insights into what it can reveal, and learning new ways to show my findings to others so that they are understood and can help with decision making. One of my proudest solutions was when I found a better way to collect the needed information when someone wanted to book an event, without having to go back and forth over multiple emails to collect all the details. I started with building a Microsoft Survey. I noticed that this still created a bottleneck for the team, converting it from Excel to the style of document that they were used to. After researching solutions I ended up teaching myself Microsoft Power BI, which automated the process to create a PDF with the data formatted in their style. This eliminated hours of work and expedited the event booking process.Looking for an analyst who will bring new ideas to your team? Send me an email at nicholecaven@gmail.com
