Responsible for ensuring that the first CFPB significant rule assessment is completed on time and meets all statute requirements. This includes identifying and executing on clear milestones and deliverables for a cross-agency team of analysts, attorneys, and PhD researchers. Collect and analyze data to support the remittance rule assessment. I regularly use public data sets (e.g. bank and credit union call reports, World Bank data sources, and official government data). I also communicate with industry to collect non-public data in order to evaluate specific provisions of the CFPB’s remittance rule.Oversee the delivery of and procured a nearly $1M data contract.Developed research plan and deliver all analysis for an upcoming market monitoring report on telecom debt collection. I use a 1-in-48 sample of all US consumers with a credit record provided by one of the three large National Credit Reporting Agencies.Provide research support for student loan impacts on household finances. This includes co-authoring an upcoming report on the effect of student loan payoff on other financial decisions.Provide timely analysis related to and complete initial drafting of the CFPB’s section 1022 obligations regarding the benefits and costs of an upcoming proposed rule. Provide timely analysis for the CFPB’s obligations under the Regulatory Flexibility Act. This requires that I determine if proposed and final rules will have a significant impact on a significant number of small entities.

Provided statistical analysis used in academic research, public education, and policy advocacy regarding rural grocery stores and healthy food access in rural Minnesota. Analyzed and distributed information from a survey of rural Minnesota grocers located in communities with fewer than 2,500 residents. Provided aggregate and disaggregated (by Minnesota region) reports to policy makers and academics. Provided some spatial analysis regarding healthy access in Minnesota rural food deserts. Working in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya the MasterCard Foundation seeks to understand the impacts of entrepreneurship training for marginalized youth. Using SPSS I provided quantitative analysis using non-parametric methods to the research team for use in evaluation reports, public presentations, and academic papers.

As a GRA I am funded on a semester basis to complete specific projects with the University of Minnesota's Extension. My current projects allow me to:Benchmark over 20 years of survey data from over 2000 individual respondents for use by community leaders, Extension staff, and academic researchers;Complete statistical analysis of key factors identified by survey respondents and interested parties regarding business retention and expansion (BR&E) strategies. Specific use of analysis of variance, linear probability modeling, and ordered logit;Author a white paper to distribute to local leaders that illustrates the importance of strong BR&E programs.

I developed a data product that contains rural/urban financial capital information to be available to Economics Research Service (ERS) economists and the general public through a USDA release. This product quantifies business loan and bank deposit information at the county level.Additionally, I completed a research project to understand how innovative businesses access financial capital in rural counties in the United States. This was initiated to answer questions from policy makers, but it also addresses gaps in the academic literature.
