I performed a variety of roles including cybersecurity, code security review, penetration testing, development, application support, and desktop support.Achievements included migrating several applications from end-of-life environments, including rewriting several SSIS packages from the ground up to improve security and error handling; stepping into a desktop support role to meet recruiting challenges - and using unconventional solutions in that role; using my deep C++ and Oracle PL/SQL experience to modernise existing code for proper use of STL libraries, and to eliminate a security concern by safely handling untrusted input.The range of experience covers C++ and Oracle on Linux and Unix (Tru64 on DEC Alpha), .NET C# and Microsoft T-SQL on Windows, scripting (both on Linux Bash shell and Windows PowerShell), and Windows desktop support (surprisingly, I used a bootable Knoppix Linux live USB to solve several issues in this role). After I moved into cyber security, I used my deep Linux skills to maintain and improve the FortiSIEM infrastructure within the SOC, as well as using Wireshark/tcpdump to accurately diagnose connection issues.I effectively adapted to each of these roles in my 14 years in Logica/CGI.

Development/embedded coding for a Linux-based Home Media Centre project, in a small team environment. The concept (in a time where a sizeable proportion of people still had dial-up Internet) is to have subscribers call into a Video Ezy rental store with a portable HDD, and load their choice of rental movies onto it. The home set top box will then dynamically decrypt and play these movies.Key technologies included C++, SQLite, Qt, and scripting on embedded Linux.Key responsibilities included development, testing of the set-top box against a test plan, bug fixes, code refactoring, and adding functionality to the set-top box.Key achievements: worked effectively with technical teams in New Zealand and Hong Kong to bring about technical fixes across team boundaries.
