About Nicholas Chappelear
I am an empathetic and energetic leader with 4+ years of experience in public speaking, customer service, and team management. As a life-long learner who always strives to improve, I thrive in collaborative spaces and attack challenges with an open-mind. Now graduated with a degree in environmental studies and a minor in writing, I am eager to find opportunities to cultivate change and inspire optimism in my local community!For my senior capstone project, I conducted research to address how environmental education and multimodal platforms like social media can focus on empowering the next generation rather than fostering feelings of eco-anxiety and climate doom. With this, I interned with Sustainability Ambassadors to develop a marketing strategy and design multimodal social media content that better connected with their youth audiences. I determined that environmental communicators can mitigate eco-anxiety and instead empower the next generation by avoiding fear-based tactics and recentering the online climate narrative on positivity. All in all, this research represents my motivation to lead with optimism and serves as a foundation for future experiences in sustainable education, stewardship, and communication.
