In my operational role as a Senior Charge Nurse, my responsibilities consisted of undertaking ward management duties on one of Europe’s largest day surgery units providing services for circa 23,000 patients a year. I was involved in project and change management ,as a secondment to pharmacy this involved the installation of medicines management in the UK. This ensured service needs were met on time and wider health care policy was implemented. Furthermore, my role as a divisional representative enabled me to develop a greater knowledge of operational service strategic planning and influencing, to deliver the Trust Key Strategic Aims.

In my role as the Lead Professional Development Nurse I was responsible for the training and implementation of new services to my unit ensuring staff received correct training to deliver a safe service to patients within my work area. I played a key role within national and local recruitment for trained nursing staff. I maintained the highest retention of trained staff within my area within the organisation with good strategy planning and looking at key aspects of recruitment for the foreseeable future. I enjoyed the development and talent spotting with trained staff ensuring we have succession plans for the organisation for future leader/ward managers.
