I lead a large local authority department delivering of a range of customer facing services including housing and property services, regeneration, environmental services, leisure and culture, volunteering, community involvement and community safety.

I was initially appointed as Principal Housing Advisory Officer responsible for housing advice and homelessness before housing strategy, lettings and development were also added to my portfolio. Prior to my promotion to Director, I was seconded to the Chief Executive’s Office to lead on customer care for the authority.As Director I was part of the corporate management team responsible for housing, environmental health, council tax and housing benefits.

I was seconded to the Senior Civil Service leading on national policy in housing management, homelessness and tenant participation. I worked for the Housing Minister helping to develop a Green Paper and subsequent legislation.

I provided a mix of general housing advice and homelessness provision and a specialist service supporting Reading’s ethnic minority communities, before being promoted to lead Reading’s housing advice services overall.
