Nick has over forty years experience with international business and government, including the US Army Intelligence Corps. During his career, Nick was Head of Group Security for British American Tobacco (BAT) based in London, England. While leading BAT's global security function, Nick implemented a robust change management process that restructured and refocused security into truly a global function, aligned with business strategies and consistent in the value it delivered. Prior to joining BAT, Nick was an executive with the US Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security. He was assigned at US Embassies in Germany, Sri Lanka, Jordan and Japan, advising Ambassadors and staff on security issues ranging from counter-terrorism to counter-intelligence. Immediately prior to joining BAT, Nick served as Executive Director of the Secretary of State's Overseas Security Advisory Council - a private / public sector partnership bringing US federal law enforcement and intelligence communities together with the American private sector to address issues relating to US investment and presence abroad. From March 2015 to November 2021, Nick served as mayor of Howell, Michigan. Thanks to the best municipal staff in Michigan, the city was consistently recognized for excellence in financial reporting with top marks in annual budget audits; designated by the State of Michigan as a redevelopment ready community; and State accreditation for the Howell Police Department - the first in Livingston county. In 2018, Howell was the recipient of the Great American Main Street Award – selected by a national jury of community development professionals and leaders in the fields of economic development and historic preservation. During the height of the pandemic, Howell Summit Gardens was created as a downtown community gathering space and a product of fantastic collaboration between the city, Howell Main Street, Thai Summit America and many other community partners. Howell Summit Gardens received recognition as the Best Placemaking Project by the Michigan Downtown Association. During times of national political polarization, Nick stayed true to the city charter by managing in a non-partisan nature. He is a member of several professional organizations (including ISMA and IACP) and previously served on the steering committee for the UK Foreign Commonwealth initiative, Security Information Service for Business Overseas. Nick currently serves on the Board of the Livingston Arts Council and Livingston County Salvation Army.
