Somerset House - Events security- ensuring physical security of the premises, safety of customers and providing excellent customer service. Working at high profile events with demanding and varied corporate clients. Meeting and greeting a wide variety of customers with varying needs and providing appropriate assistance. Acting as the site security manager for large events where numerous security officers are deployed and covering multiple events and 5 licensed premises. Acting as site security manager to cover holidays and periods of absence. Briefing / tasking / training and conducting health and safety briefings for staff unfamiliar with the venue. Liaising with site management and client to ensure a safe and secure event, meeting the expectations of the client while adopting an appropriate security posture.

With the country locked down and events industry on hold I felt that I could not sit at home and wanted to do my bit in supporting the NHS. I drove emergency response vehicles transporting NHS medical teams for the National Organ Retrieval Service. Providing high levels of customer service to the medical teams / transplant patients. Working with empathy, discretion and compassion in what are often difficult and upsetting circumstances. Transporting human organs safely on a national basis ensuring the safety of the organs and the public.

Leading a large security team in a prestigious, challenging, and diverse setting within the City of London. I balanced delivering excellent customer service with maintaining the security of the Guildhall complex. I constantly strived to meet the needs of our customers while ensuring that The Guildhall was a safe, secure, and welcoming place to work and enjoy a wide range of events. I provided advice on large capital spend projects enhancing the physical security of the site while dealing sensitively and diplomatically with corporate clients and senior internal stakeholders. I enhanced the capability of the security department with additional training bespoke to individuals’ roles and responsibilities. I worked with specialist protection teams (Royal Family / Diplomats / Senior MP's / Celebrities) to ensure commensurate and joined up security plans were in place based on risk and individual requirements on a weekly basis. The Guildhall is the home to the Lord Mayors banquet and other prestigious City and corporate events as well as visitor attractions including City art gallery, Roman amphitheatre, Police museum and libraries.

Operational Policing

As a member of a senior leadership team, I was responsible for the strategic overview of operational policing throughout a busy London borough. I managed 700 staff over five diverse teams, providing a wide range of services including emergency response and community liaison. This role carried significant operational risk both in the reaction to major events and in the everyday delivery of policing services. I provided direction that had the potential to significantly impact lives. I built and maintained resilient relationships with internal and external partners, key stakeholders, and public groups, chairing various community boards and interacting meaningfully with community groups. I am recognised as a highly effective leader with a reputation for revitalising underperforming teams and effectively leading on risk and change management issues. I proactively drove performance, reviewing crime analysis and internal and external databases to assess demand, ensuring exceptional service delivery and building community confidence. I oversaw contingency planning across the borough, reviewing and adjusting plans to ensure resilience at times of crisis and manage a range of professional standards issues, encompassing grievance investigations, performance issues and adherence to legal requirements. With responsibility for the planning and delivery of large public events (NYE, St Patricks Day parade, Chinese New Year), I worked with a range of external partners to ensure safe and well-resourced events and served as the borough events and public order lead, reviewing and driving the appropriate dissemination of intelligence to mitigate risk and a joined-up approach to pre-planned and spontaneous events. I also oversaw the borough counter terrorism response, promoting reassurance and the robust prevention of hostile reconnaissance.

Operational Policing

Leading a team of 80, I managed the delivery of policing services across a large London borough. I directed operational response to emergency incidents, including initial investigations into the most serious crimes, ensuring the most appropriate, often fast time services were consistently delivered. I demonstrated the ability to think calmly in the highest tension environments, remaining cognisant of the requirements of legal and moral demands. I oversaw the compliance within all custody procedures, managing the reception, detention, release and overall care of individuals brought into police custody. I managed exceptional risk, supervising a range of high threat incidents across a busy London borough, from missing persons to serious crime, threats to life and spontaneous public order events; successfully performing risk assessments and directing the most effective response. During my tenure, my team was recognised as most productive on the borough, including implementation of a highly successful crime reduction initiative in Soho which reduced drug offending and acquisitive crime. My work secured significant crime reduction and raised confidence in policing services within the business community of Oxford Street and the West EndI served as a public order inspector, leading teams in deployments throughout London. This included management of both predicted events and fast reaction to spontaneous events from terrorist activity to public unrest. I created tactical plans, delivering instructional briefings and supervised resources. Locally, I led the proactive challenge to crime and disorder issues, conducting searches, tracing and arresting wanted and violent offenders and challenging gang crime activity.

Operational Policing

Beginning my service as a constable, I successfully rose through the ranks building a foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction. I served as a response officer, tasked with the immediate management of critical incidents and a wide range of operational activities. On promotion to sergeant, I served as a custody officer demonstrating the ability to think calmly in high tension environments whilst remaining cognisant of the requirements of all legal and moral demands. I was responsible for the reception, detention, release and overall care of individuals brought into a large London custody suite, undertaking responsibility for often the most vulnerable in society and embraced what is regarded as one of the most stressful and high responsibility roles within policing. I led the initial operational response to serious crimes including murders, terrorist incidents and demonstrations, going on to develop leadership support guidelines for use at critical incidents which were subsequently adopted across the MPS. I oversaw licensing enforcement, driving the proactive management of alcohol licensing for pubs and clubs. I conducted licensing visits, identifying and investigating breaches of licence conditions and criminal offences, creating strategies to successfully tackle alcohol related offences, violence and breaches of licensing legislation.
