He was hired initially as a consultant to conduct a thorough risk assessment in order to establish a robust and enduring security infrastructure. This was designed to facilitate the delivery of development programmes throughout the country, including the turbulent north. This period of 13 weeks was followed by full time employment as the Security Manager for the company. Responsibilities included the identification and management of security and associated risks, including emergency response planning, in order to ensure best practice and the protection of employees, consultants and visitors. This has included setting up from scratch the security operating procedures, the instruction of the staff on the threat and protection measures, the coordination of external security training providers, the introduction and assimilation of security related equipment and liaison with local security forces and other development agencies. There has been a continual need to review procedures in the light of the changing security environment and the addition of three additional programmes, including one that has offices in five of the problematic northern states. Major innovations over the two-year period have included the establishment of a permanent operations room and the hiring of a northern-based deputy. Show less

Responsibilities included command and control of all operations in support of the project, the development and implementation of realistic Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), in order to ensure the security of the client, and the development and maintenance of high training standards that are relevant to the mission and directly enhance operational capability. The position also requires liaison with local security forces, both military and police, and international and non-governmental organisations, in order to share information and ensure a coherent and effective response to incidents.
