My name is Nick Walker and I am the Operations Manager at Screentek International Ltd. We manufacture high quality and competitive office screening. www.screentek-international.comIdentity furniture is our brand which focuses on creating unique and beautiful furniture for office, education and hospitality environments. www.identity-furniture.com.Upon leaving High School, I went on to study Computing at Runshaw College over a 3 year period and qualified with a Bsc Hons. Degree. I decided that I would continue with my education and I enrolled at UCLAN in Preston to study Computing. Following my 1st year at the University (and finally realizing how frustrating computers are!) I decided this career path was not for me and that I needed to do something a bit more Hands on.I started life at Screentek back in September 2008 in a role as Packaging and Goods In/Out Operative and I used the job role to expand my knowledge of office screening and furniture to then become the Supervisor of the packing department. Following this I took it upon myself to learn all aspects of the manufacturing process and a job opportunity came up for Sales Order Input which I decided to take but due to my knowledge of the production process, timings and weights etc. This then lead to a role in production planning and planning transport for deliveries and collections. Screentek then arranged training courses for me such as First Aid, Fire Marshall and People Management. I also studied on the Accelerated Route to Lean Manufacturing course which is run by the Manufacturing Institute. On this course I learned many things which have helped our business develop over time and improve efficiency. These include 5S techniques, Lean production, Visual Management and workplace organisation. This has now earned me the role of Operations Manager where I can use my knowledge for continuous improvement.
