CentrePort Ltd is the Port of Wellington, and is owned by both the Wellington and Horizons/Manawatu Regional Councils. CentrePort has significant freehold land holdings in the Wellington region and also has both leasehold and freehold interests in the wider Central region. It developed a substantial commercial office building portfolio.My roles at CentrePort Properties and CentrePort included bottom line P&L and Balance Sheet responsibility (for CentrePort Properties Ltd), leadership of teams, land and building development, capital release and equity repatriation, Directorships of JV's, port masterplanning, infrastructure asset management planning, management of the interisland ferry facilities, recovery of buildings and property following major earthquake damage, leading engineering assessments and provision of information to conclude property earthquake insurance claims, and leading the companies position into Govt Inquiry around the seismic performance of one of its buildings, as well as local and central govt stakeholder management roles.

Wellington International Airport Ltd is owned by Infratil NZ Ltd and the Wellington City Council. The Airport is one of the country's busiest domestic airports. The Airport is close to the CBD of Wellington, and being the capital city as well as the heart of the country's film industry the Airport receives its fair share of media, political and social attention. In addition to its terminal, lounge and retail facilities the airport company holds approximately 110 ha of land, which are variously used for a mixture of aviation, industrial, commercial, vehicle and non-airport retail uses. Responsibilities held whilst at Wellington Airport included management and growth of the company’s commercial businesses including property, retail and vehicle and development of the Airport Retail Park at Lyall Bay.

Carter Holt Harvey was the third largest company in NZ with over 11,000 employees. It was involved in forest and building products, paper and packaging. The land estate of Carter Holt Harvey was one of the largest estates held in the country at the time, located throughout the North Island and in the Upper part of the South Island. Of the 300,000ha held approximately 190,000ha was freehold the remainder being leasehold. The company had an active programme of alternate land use, development and sale. My role was to execute a high value land development strategy, converting from forest to dairy and from forestry to rural residential lifestyle developments.

CBRE is one of the largest full service real estate agency and property consultancy businesses in the world and is listed on the NY Stock Exchange. My role as National Director Asset Services was to lead the NZ Asset Management team, and develop and maintain business across the industrial, commercial office and retail property sectors. I also sat on the NZ advisory Board and reported through to the NZ Managing Director as well as the Asia Pacific Director of Asset Services based out of Melbourne, Australia.

Shortland Properties Ltd was a NZSX listed commercial property investment company. The controlling interest was held by The Todd Corporation, which subsequently sold to Capital Properties in 1999. My role was to report to the Managing Director, advise on investment and divestment, manage the property portfolio and lead the property management team.

Inland Revenue NZ is the NZ Governments tax collection agency. Upon leaving University I commenced working for the Department as a Property Manager, looking after the Department’s tenancy leasing interests. I was responsible for the area from Napier to New Plymouth North and reported to the National Property Manager interacting with District Commissioners as clients and Head Office Deputy Commissioners for decisions. In addition to the property management function, when Govt declared that Departments should arrange commercial insurance I managed that project liaising with Treasury and recommending placement to the Department.
