I read software development books from the perspective of a potential customer. I provide commentary on the drafts of book chapters to give the editor and author a sense of how well I understand the books concepts and how much I enjoy or dislike reading it. My commentary acts as either a validation of the author's draft material or is motivation for editing the text.
