About Nick Lee Oam

I am the Founder and Chair of the Jodi Lee Foundation, which is dedicated to raising awareness about bowel cancer, and Co-Director and Partner of Healthy Minds, a program that aims to provide people with optimal mental health and wellbeing. The Jodi Lee Foundation was created in honour of my late wife, who passed away from bowel cancer in 2010. This loss changed my life, and led me to establishing a Foundation dedicated to educating Australian’s about the risks of bowel cancer, ways to reduce these risks, and raising general awareness of Australia’s second deadliest cancers. The Jodi Lee Foundation is also home to the largest Corporate Bowel Screening Program in Australia – the Workplace Prevention Program. As the Founder and former CEO of the Jodi Lee Foundation, I developed a passion for corporate health and a strong desire to improve the health of ordinary Australians. Joining Tom Nehmy at Healthy Minds presented a perfect opportunity for me to continue to advocate for Australian health. I was a 2015 South Australian of the Year finalist, the 2013 EY Social Entrepreneur of the Year (Central), and have been a key note speaker, all of which has allowed me to use my voice, and my experiences, to help save countless other Australians.

I started the Jodi Lee Foundation in 2010 after I lost my wife, and mother to our two young children, Jodi, to bowel cancer at the age of 41. The Foundation was set up to raise awareness of how bowel cancer can affect anyone, and to help educate Australians around symptoms. Over the last 9 years, the Jodi Lee Foundation has raised $12 million for bowel cancer prevention. Thanks to the generous support of family, friends and supporters, I have personally raised $750,000. We have also introduced the largest Corporate Bowel Screening Program in Australia, the Workplace Prevention Program, which has successfully educated more than 30,000 Australians on how to reduce risk of bowel cancer. This program has resulted in numerous people contacting the Foundation, telling us that our program likely saved their lives: they had taken the test home, received a positive result, been booked in for a colonoscopy, only to wake up after the procedure to hear that they’ve had several polyps removed. My corporate business experience has been an advantage in the not-for-profit sector, and has allowed me to continually grow the Foundation and spread its message. I have negotiated a major deal with the AFL (Australian Football League) to use the sport’s high profile to drive further awareness of the Jodi Lee Foundation and all its messages, obtained $1.5 million from the Liberal Government for a National Bowel Cancer Awareness campaign, and negotiated a $10 million pledge from the Labor Government, which we are now negotiating with the Liberal Government.
