Outdoor gyms are being built in cities in ever-growing numbers and are becoming part of urban environment. The Warsaw municipality, for example, has invested in over 300 outdoor gyms city-wide in the last 5 years, and thus made for a good study site. There is only limited scientific evidence that supports and gives insight into their effectiveness and my thesis seeks to add to the pool of knowledge whilst critically analyzing worldwide outdoor gym related research.The thesis consisted of two parts, the first being a thematic literature review which was complemented by information provided by local outdoor gym research experts. The second part was the development of a research protocol (observation and survey) of outdoor gym users in Warsaw, which took place during a two month placement period. The main aim was to find out through how much and by whom the outdoor gyms are used, and to measure their perception and reasons for use.

Ghana introduced a National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in 2003. Health care providers get paid for the provided services to NHIS subscribers. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) faced an increasing burden of costs throughout the years and decided to implement another provider payment system, capitation.The NHIA chose to pilot capitation payment in the Ashanti region in 2012, as an alternative payment method for primary care. Implementation of the new policy was preceded by an information, education and communication program (IEC) to ensure subscribers of NHIS had adequate knowledge and understanding of the policy. A previous study of the policy in the Ashanti pilot (Agyei-Baffour et al., 2013) found that respondents’ knowledge of the capitation payment system did not translate into understanding of the issues involved with it. As of now, the NHIA is scaling up the implementation of the capitation policy in three other regions. The goal of this study is to find the knowledge gaps (on the capitation policy) within the group of subscribers and NHIA staff in Ashanti and to correlate this to the impact the IEC has had. Furthermore, it goes to show whether their knowledge translates into “learning, yielding and behavior”.To reach the objectives, two questionnaire have been designed for this study (one for each group of subjects). Following the questionnaire design, there was a 1 month period of field work in Kumasi, Ghana, which included taking of the questionnaires and several in-depth interviews. Statistical analysis of the data and writing of the article are still in progress.

Consultancy internship in which I wrote an advice report based on a literature review and qualitative research.The Emergency department of the RadboudUMC started a new multidisciplinary simulation training program and my role was to observe and evaluate the process of the first three trainings, perform interviews with those involved and write an advice report that included best practices and recommendations for future improvements of the program.
