Hi, I’m Nick, a freelance photojournalist based in Southern Ontario.I discovered my passion for photography and photojournalism while studying Canadian history at Wilfrid Laurier University. From 2008 to 2013 I managed the photography department of Laurier’s award winning independent campus and community newspaper The Cord.At the same time I worked as a research assistant and photographer at the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies (LCMSDS). There I participated in and photographed three European battlefield tours and co-authored two books about Canada at War.As a journalist I’ve worked for large and small publications covering municipal, provincial and national elections, various sporting events, shooting spot news, taking environmental portraits, and covered large events like the G20 riots in 2010, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.In 2021 I was hired as the last staff photographer for NOW magazine in Toronto, working until the publication’s bankruptcy in late 2022. Currently I am back to full time freelancing.My interests gravitate towards news photography, stories about community, and social inequality issues.

I worked as a freelance photojournalist with Metro Toronto until it was rebranded as StarMetro in 2018.

My position at LCMSDS has seen me filling a variety of roles. As a research assistant, I began a project to digitize some 300,000 aerial reconnaissance photographs taken by the RCAF during the Second World War. I have also worked as a photographer, designer and battlefield mapmaker for LCMSDS. I co-authored Canadian Battlefields 1915-1918 A Visitors Guide in 2011 (2nd ed 2015) and 1812 A Guide To The War and its Legacy in 2013.

As the Visual Director for Wilfrid Laurier's independant student newspaper The Cord, I was responsible for the overall visual presentation of the publication. Working with section editors, I assisted them in laying out the paper each week. As well I was the last person to view PDF's before the went to the EIC and again before they were sent to the printer.
