I am a sophomore at Indiana University in the Luddy School of Informatics and Computing, where I am pursuing a major in Informatics with a cognate in Cyber Security. I look forward to the challenges ahead of me and know a Luddy degree will prepare me to immediately contribute and excel in the job market ahead. Throughout high school, I was actively involved in football, competition show/concert choir, and DECA, a business program designed to expose students to real world business models and situations. Football is rather self-explanatory, as one kicker can’t win a game without the rest of the team. Being elected as President of a 60-member choir that competes at a high level took lots of patience, negotiation and strong will to keep everyone engaged. DECA equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in various areas, including accountability, teamwork, and establishing a good work ethic. As an example, my DECA project involved collaborating with our school's principal and superintendent to raise awareness for mental health. My compassionate and driven personality played a pivotal role in our group's success in creating awareness within both our school and the community. Our collective efforts resulted in the creation of a new position and the hiring of a specialized mental health counselor. This accomplishment allowed our DECA chapter to attend internationals in Orlando, Florida. I learned through all these experiences that working hard was only a part of the whole and that a strong commitment to collaborating with others was the best way to achieve your goals. Looking forward, I am currently a member of a few clubs on campus and would like to work into leadership role in the future. I will continue to learn and apply these valuable lessons and experiences to advance in my future career.Feel free to reach out to me at berrynm@iu.edu
